Bednall - "We then met the Henderson family. Dr Henderson had been a distinguished surgeon at the Middlesex Hospital in London when he decided to join the Colonial Medical Service in Kenya in 1904. He was one of the very early pioneers and had a distinguished record of service to the Colony. His wife was a delightful person who had also been an early medical pioneer in the country. I was immediately attracted to one of the girls but could not make out if she was the married one or not! I was delighted when I found out that she was the youngest. Visits to Nakuru became a regular feature of life and when I asked Patricia, who has always been 'Paddy', to marry me I was overjoyed when she accepted. I eventually met the married sister who heard that I was engaged to someone else. This cast a bit of a cloud over the proceedings until I managed to convince the family that this was certainly not true! I dutifully went to Dr Henderson and asked for his daughter's hand. It was an unnerving experience, happily crowned with success. ………….
