East Africa & Rhodesia - 11/9/52 - Mr Charles Rowland Price, who has died suddenly in Nairobi from coronary thrombosis at the age of 55, was well known throughout East Africa as a director of Motor Mart and Exchange Ltd., for his interest in commercial and other public affairs, and for his services to Freemasonry.

Born in Johannesburg, he joined the South African forces at the age of 18 and served with them in the 1914-18 war in Kenya, Tanganyika and Portuguese East Africa. After demobilization he joined Messrs. Dunn, Hornby & Co., the Nairobi accountants, and 17 years later became secretary of Motor Mart and Exchange Ltd., to the board of which he was subsequently appointed. He had remained with that company until the time of his death. He was a first-class accountant, an expert on income tax, and a man of wide knowledge in the motor and allied trades. He had a great capacity for work, and his colleagues will miss his loyal friendship and sound counsel. As a Freemason, he was treasurer of the Faith and Charity Chapter, a member of Lodge "Scotia, Nairobi," and a foundation member of the Highlands Lodge of that city.
