Carr - Joint owner of Mt. Kenya Bacon Factory with A.H. Walker and P.C. Loest in 1920s. Keen game hunter (usually with Mr Rennie in the Kedong Valley)
Carr - A 'remittance man' - Apparently went to school in England with Viscount (later Lord) Lascelles, who stayed with them and hunted with my grandfather. My mother told me that Lascelles caused a bit of an uprising when he shot a native out of a tree, thinking it was an ape. The family left immediately for Nairobi and found their place burned to the ground when they returned some time later. Whether or not this is true, I have no idea. My mother would have been very young at the time and her memories may have been fanciful.
Web - Query as to whether Charles Henry Sykes married a Miriam Ackroyd in Yorkshire in 1897 and had a daughter Alice Ann. There is also an entry in the marriage index showing a Charles Henry Sykes as marrying Alice Lucenda Smith in Mirfield 2 June 1907.
