East Africa & Rhodesia - 8/11/56 - We regret to report the sudden death in London last week at the age of 74 of Mrs Izabel Langford Hunter, widow of the late Dr. H.H. Hunter, one of the first advocates to practice in Kampala, whom she married in 1914. She had lived in Uganda from that time until her husband's death in 1944, taking a prominent part in the life of the commercial capital. She helped to form the choir of All Saints Church, Kampala, she was a joint founder of the Uganda Branch of the RSPCA, she was a vice-president of the Uganda branch of the British Red Cross Society, she was the first woman to be elected to life membership of the Victoria Nyanza Yacht Club, and she was for 20 years president of the local association of Girl Guides. A most hospitable and charitable person, she had entertained widely and helped many good causes, including missions and hospitals. Her son, Mr Denis F.H. Hunter now lives in Cheam, Surrey.
