Snoxall - 1928 - The then Director of Education in Uganda, Eric Hussey, was a forceful and energetic man given to early rising. Soon after 6 am each morning he would take a constitutional walk around the hillside, throwing stones onto the roofs of his still slumbering officers and exhorting them by name to "rise and shine". These gentlemen were then expected to assist in the training of college athletes exercising for the forthcoming Protectorate games. Hussey himself was rather better qualified than his subordinates in this respect, since he was an Oxford blue and an Olympic hurdler (!908)
