Edinburgh Gazette 26 Apr 1921 Awarded the Military Cross. Capt. John Stewart Falconer Hodson, 48th Pnrs., I.A. For conspicuous gallantry on the 4th January 1921. His company was caught under a heavy fire from three directions whilst road-making. He returned the fire, but, as he had no cover, ordered his men to retire by sections. He remained until the last, and then himself carried a badly wounded man 300 yards to cover, in the performance of which he himself was wounded. He continued in command of his company till the end of the day, refusing to go to the ambulance. His conduct throughout the day was most praiseworthy.
