Macmillan 1930 - J. R. Mellor - Architect - The only Architect at Eldoret is Capt. J.R. Mellor who started practising there in 1926 and has already made his impress on the town by designing some of the most noteworthy of the local buildings including the National Bank of India which is the largest at Eldoret, the National Bank of India bungalow and various other noteworthy structures. The Roman Villa at Ziwa the residence of Mr A.H. Bibby …… was also planned by him. …. Capt Mellor studied at the Beaux Arts Paris and served his articles with the resident engineer at Banff, Canada helping in the designing of many of the buildings there. In 1914 he joined the 1st Canadian Division and fought during the Great War in France. After the Armistice he joined the Indian Army in which he rose to the rank of Captain.
