Rattray .......... Jan 1920, appointed Governor of Nyasaland
Kenya Diary - 1903 - Nairobi - Manning was out here a little time back; he is our Inspector-General. A story from Uganda relates that when he inspected the company of Capt. Sykes he said: "Now Capt. Sykes, I should like to see your company do the bayonet exercise." Sykes replied : "So should I, sir." .........…
15th Dec. 1905 - Muhoroni - Nandi Expedition - General Manning arrived here today from Uganda and a conference with the Nandi chiefs was held in the afternoon. After what I considered a weak and disconnected harangue by Hayes-Sadler, who neither knew what he wished to say nor could speak coherently, the terms were delivered in phrases of doubt and vacillation.
