Tony Cruickshank: My father, David Cruickshank, worked for a time in Rostermans Gold Mine in Kakamega and then for Nairobi Town Council.  I was born in the UK in October 1931 and we returned to Nairobi permanently in February 1932.  My mother was then Kathleen Ena Cruickshank. My mother and father were divorced in 1935 and later my mother married Johannes (John) van Dijk who worked for Twentsche Overseas Trading Co.  At the outbreak of war my father joined the RAF and on 21st November 1941 his aircraft was shot down and all on board killed whilst undertaking a secret mission over Libya, attempting to disrupt enemy tank radio communications.

My mother Kathleen Ena Fallows, joined Motormart and Exchange.
