Mombasa 19/12/1898; report submitted 28/4/1899 After six months in Kenya he sent a report back to Britain saying that in spite of the appalling conditions, the setbacks caused by attacking lions, intense heat, lack of water and many forms of illness prevalent, the work was in fact going ahead very thoroughly and efficiently. As a result of magnificent work the Railway reached Nairobi on May 30th 1899.
