Macmillan - 1930 - Tangana Hotel …. The building is certainly architecturally commendable, and was at first a private dwelling. Afterwards it was converted into residential flats, and in 1927 was taken over by Mr and Mrs F.A. Lomas (late of the Mombasa Club) who turned it into the present Tangana Hotel. At the outset their venture was regarded as unwise because of the existence of the other large, modern hotels in Mombasa, and it was thought that they would soon have to close down.
