Julie Trayner: Malan and Emmerentia came up from South Africa. (I think they came by oxcart). They had 4-6 children together and arrived in Nanyuki / Nyeri area where Malan was in charge of putting in the electric lighting in the area. My mother did occasionally keep in touch with their children and we did meet a couple of them when we were kids. (I know a couple of them are/were in South Africa and one, I think, in Ireland/Wales and a couple have passed away). He died at 33 years old of pneumonia. Ms EG Malan was probably Malan’s sister (according to June). Her full name was Elizabeth Gertrude Malan.
