Macmillan - The business of the Societa Coloniale Italiana had its origin in the enterprising activities of Messrs. Bienenfeld and Co., who were amongst the earliest contractors for the supply of mules, porters, etc., from Mombasa to Uganda before the construction of the railway. In 1899 Messrs. Bienenfeld and Co. were succeeded by the Societa Coloniale Italiana.
