General Information:

Gordon's children:- Tom, his wife Pat and son John & farm manager were killed in that dreadful plane crash in Zimbabwe after the Emergency - a question mark still hangs over this as to the real cause and because of his exploits with the Emergency Forces, suspected revenge. His three daughters are all married - 2 still in Zimbabwe - the eldest in Perth Australia. Joan Stanning married Tom Grumbley of Brooke Bond Tea Estates, Kericho - they still (1994) live in Kenya at Malindi. Source: Mrs Diana Stanning and Mr David Stanning
Gethin - 'After leaving Baringo I came to a European farm where I met for the first time Gordon and Duncan Stanning. They had recently arrived from England and taken up land in the Lower Molo district with the intention of cattle ranching. About my age and both fine looking men, well over 6 feet and tough, one of their family had been a rivetter in a North of England shipyard and had patented a rivetting machine which Gordon used to say brought him in a fortune. He sent his sons to Rugby and gave them a substantial sum to start farming in EA.
Gordon became a great friend of mine, and we had many parties together. When he stood a round of drinks, Gordon would say, "Cheerio! Thank God I have a rich relative who is paying for this". I found the Stannings loading about 20 donkeys with trade goods, with the intention  of going to the Suk country to trade for stock.'
Memoirs of Maurice B. Tennent - 1926 - [Lumbwa] Beyond the Vet. Dept. one came to Inglewood Farm, the property of John Stanning. Old Mrs Cushney had been the original owner and he had sold to John and Gordon Stanning.
