Served on Committees of several bodies. Keen golfer, cricketer and tennis player, Vice Pres. of Kenya Kongonis in 1934. For some years Commissioner for Boy Scouts in Colony & Chairman All Saints Church Committee.  A gifted artist, he was President of the Arts & Crafts Society.
Permanent Way - During the illness of Sir Joseph Byrne in 1936 he was Chief Secretary and was mainly responsible for persuading the European Elected Members to accept the 'compromise' which ended the long and bitter controversy over the introduction of income tax.
President of the Oxford & Cambridge Society - 1932. Retired to Sussex where his relaxation was fishing
