Colin Garvie - Ebenezer George Garvie was born in Knysna in 1886 and baptized on the 12th March, 1886 in the Dutch Reformed Church of Knysna.    George, as he was generally known, spent his infant years in Knysna. He could hardly have been two when the family moved to Kimberley. Here he spent almost ten years. He was not even a teenager when the family moved to Johannesburg.   During the Anglo-Boer War George slipped out of the Transvaal with his parents and spent these years in Durban and Newcastle. The Garvies had a home at Albert Park in Durban. In Durban George rode dispatches for the military on bicycle.   George and Rose together with Reggie and Arthur, Oupa and Ouma Heuer and their children Otto and Gertie left Johannesburg for Kenya. At first George was engaged in road construction in the Naivasha region when he acquired land on the Western Highlands of Kenya. In Nairobi he "played" the pianola at his brother, Donald's, bioscope. He did so at funerals too. Once, by mistake, he played a military march at the funeral! George's home was some 26 miles from John and Lilly Garvie farm in Nandi.   Rosa passed away at the age of 69 on the 21st February, 1951 in the Klip River district of Natal. George died on the 27th February, 1962 in Durban at the age of 76.
Drumkey 1909 has E.S. Garvie - Nairobi
