McIvor Times and Rodney Advertiser Word was received by Mr D. J. Clampett, of Murchison East, to the effect that his brother, Peter, had died of illness while on active military service in South Africa. These sad tidings were conveyed to Mr Clampett in the usual brief Defence Department cablegram, and no additional particulars had been received up to the time of our going to press. The late Mr Peter Clampett had been resident in South Africa for many years past, and for some time has been serving with the British forces operating in German East Africa. He was a native of the Murchison district being a member of a well-known family of four sons and one daughter. He was well-known and highly respected throughout the Murchison district, and on the news of his death being received expressions of deep regret were to be heard on all sides. Deceased was between 45 and 50 years of age at the time of his death, We join with our readers in expressing sympathy for the bereaved relatives (McIvor Times and Rodney Advertiser (Heathcote), Thu 17 May 1917, p2).
