Glimpses - Anton Levitan says - "My father Charles Levitan, came to East Africa as a six-year-old, with his parents Maurice and Sarah Levitan. He had been born in Lithuania just across the Latvian border, near Riga, but in 1922 my grandparents emigrated to Kenya with Charles who was just 6 years old. The family initially settled in Uganda but moved to Kenya a few years later. My father was a founder pupil of the Prince of Wales School. He had hoped for a career in law but had to leave school to get a job to help pay for the education of his younger brothers, Philip and Hymie.
When World War II broke out my father joined the army and served in East Africa, with the rank of captain. After the war he joined Muter & Oswald auctioneers, then when Sandy Oswald started an estate agency he joined that, bought it after Oswald died, and ran it until his own death in 1997.
