General Information:

Red Book 1912 - F. Charlesworth - Mombasa
Mills Railway - 1897 - In its lower reaches the stream formed the boundary between 2 plots, one of which belonged to Dr Francis Charlesworth, court physician at Zanzibar. One of the Sultan's sons broke his leg but, under Charlesworth's care, a complete recovery took place. To show his gratitude, the Sultan gave Charlesworth 2 plots, totalling 672 acres, fronting the north shore of Port Reitz. The Railway dam was built, half on the smaller Charlesworth plot, and the remainder on another plot across the stream. Dr Charlesworth left Zanzibar, but in 1953, some 60 years later, the 2 plots were still owned by his family. [later bought by the Railway for £50,000]
