Bartlett - 1938 - parents returned to South Africa and children were educated in South Africa, fought in WW2 with South African Forces. Fred married Elizabeth. ….. In October 1946 Albert [brother] and I bought a Willys Jeep and 3/4 ton trailer to drive to Kenya. Father purchased a Nash sedan and suggested that we travel north in convoy. The trip was accomplished in 10 days without mishap ………….. We found the farm in fairly good order although a lot had been neglected during the war. The Kikuyu families had remained and taken care of things ………… After establishing Albert and myself in charge, my parents returned to South Africa. ……………….. Soon after Albert and I started on the farm, Father bought additional land and added it to our existing block. Eventually we owned 18,000 acres of land, most of which was excellent cattle country and had a lot of valuable timber, primarily cedar, on it.
