Harriet Griffley (granddaughter): He joined the Universities Mission to Central Africa and went to Zanzibar in 1912.  He was interned in a prisoner of war camp in German East Africa in 1914. He sailed home from Mombasa in 1916 and in 1917 he was ordained in the Church of England. In 1918 in was selected as a chaplain in the King's African Rifles and set sail for East Africa. Returned to UK. He returned to farm for a while in East Africa. Was back in Wales by 1930.
