Wedding Notice - The departure of the Mombasa train from Nairobi on Thursday was marked by a series of explosions. This was in honour of Mr & Mrs Allan Johnston who earlier in the day had been the central figures in a wedding solemnised at the Cathedral of the Highlands. The bride was Miss Sylvia Hudson, daughter of Mrs Hudson (Madame Hudson) and the late Mr J. Hudson. The late Mr Hudson was one of the Railway pioneers of EA, having first been employed in 1897, whilst the bride herself was born in Nairobi. Mr Allan Johnston, the bridegroom, is an assistant engineer on the Railway. He is the son of Mr & Mrs J.J. Johnston of Aberdeen. The interest taken in yesterdays event was evidenced by the large number of Railway representatives present including the Acting General Manager, General Rhodes. The Bishop of Mombasa performed the ceremony in a Church adorned with lilies, roses and gypsophila. Mr Tom Dando was at the organ. ...... (more)
