Naivasha - pre 1910 - there was one superior bungalow owned by Ralph Seymour, a cousin of the late Lord Delamere; he ran a sort of club for the farmers who could sleep there, and it was a place of meeting for the settlers who came long distances either on horse-back or by pony trap or waggon and all met to exchange news and take back foodstuffs and stock. All were made welcome by Mr Seymour and spent a jolly time together. After being in the blue, it was good to talk and exchange experiences. ……… Ralph Seymour was responsible for the first sport in the district instituting local race meetings……

Midday Sun - Will Powys wrote, 'I met a wild-looking man, Seymour, on a motor-bike. He gave me a job at once for my keep, but he did not like it much because I ate a pot of jam a day. I spent my time digging wells for windmills.' He was also instructed to round up any stray livestock he could find and drive them on to the government farm near Naivasha with whose manager Seymour had a feud.'
Playne - Manera - Sheep are the principal feature of Manera, Mr R. Seymour's fine farm of 1640 acres, situated 3 miles from Naivasha railway station. The railway line runs through the property, which is also bordering on the Naivasha lake. Of the farm 640 acres are freehold, the rest being leasehold. The farm is entirely fenced, and water is obtained from the lake and wells. There are about 1500 sheep (which are expected to increase to some 2000 shortly), 100 cows and heifers, 30 bullocks, and an imported Friesland Bull. .......... There are 17 donkey mares for breeding jennets (half pony and half donkey), which should prove a good speculation, as they have hardly been tried in BEA, and a donkey finds a ready sale at £5. The idea of the jennet is to obtain an animal free from horse sickness and one of greater strength than the donkey. ...... The boma, which is one of the best in the country, is built entirely of cedar logs, while a fine stone house has been erected. Drumkey 1909 - Cattle Brand - V1S - R.
