From 1917-19 Acting Governor. During his years in EA he was on the Committee of the Nairobi Club and the Nairobi Golf Club, and was at one time President of the EA Turf Club. The CMG was conferred on him in 1908 and he was a Fellow of the Zoological Society and of the Royal Geographical Society. Lady Bowring was well known for her untiring hospitality and interest in all welfare work.

Cuckoo - One of the Railway engineers had fixed a small motor to his trolley (in Mombasa) and bequeathed this to C.C. Bowring on leaving the country. He was envied by all.    
Golf - present at first general meeting of Nairobi, later Royal Nairobi, Golf Club in 1910. Elected to Committee. First President in 1920. Captain of Nairobi Golf Club in 1912   
Debrett - entered Colonial Branch of Exchequer and Audit Dept. 1890, became Local Auditor of British Central Africa Protectorate 1895, and of EA Protectorate and Uganda Railway 1901 ( a MEC and MLC thereof 1907) and Ch. Kenya Diary - July 1904 - Mombasa - Bowring has great charm and is one of the most intelligent men in the Administration. He is the Protectorate Treasurer and first rate at his job. He is both hospitable and kind, especially to newcomers like myself. He should go far if given the chance. ........ Mar. 1905 - Mombasa - Bowring's Sunday morning 'cocktail parade' has become an institution in Mombasa. Its object is to mix and drink as many of these poisonous drinks as possible, then have a gigantic lunch and sleep afterwards.

Playne - Mr Bowring came to BEA from the British Central Africa Protectorate. He was born at Windsor on November 20, 1872, and educated at Clifton College. He came to EA on June 5, 1899. His appointment to his present position as Treasurer of the EA Protectorate dates from October 1, 1901. He took his seat on the Executive and Legislative Councils in 1907. Previous service as follows: Colonial Audit Branch, Exchequer and Audit Dept., January 20 1890; Hong Kong, Dec. 1892; Local Auditor, British Central Africa Sept. 1895; Local Auditor, EAP and Uganda Railway, June 1899. He is on the committee of the Nairobi Club and Nairobi Golf Club, and is Vice-President of the EA Turf Club. The CMG was conferred on him in 1908. Mr Bowring is a Fellow of the Zoological Society, the Royal Geographical Society, the Royal Horticultural Society, and the Colonial Institute.
