Stoneham - Mau - Nyeri - 1952 - A dinner party was being held at the home of Mr Fernandes the President of that Polo Club which had lately been burnt down. After dinner, one of the guests, a girl in her 20s, went out on to the verandah. She saw 3 Africans about to enter a bedroom. At the moment she saw them they saw her, and one of them promptly drew a revolver and shot her. His aim was bad and she suffered no more than a flesh-wound in the shoulder. The girl, daughter of a Kenya settler, dashed into her own bedroom and grabbed up a revolver which she kept under the pillow on her bed. She came out shooting, and the intruders fled for their lives.
Year Book - 1953 - The Gwath Hunt, kennelled at Mweiga, not far from Nyeri, lays claim to be the Colony's oldest pack. One of its founders, Mr T.R. Swift, and now in his 83rd year, is still with us, and it was he who gave the pack the title "Gwath" after a hill close to his home.  After a long period Mr Swift was joined in Mastership by Mrs Charles Fernandes (a great sportswoman) in 1947 and today she is in sole charge. Of all the nice-looking hounds in Kenya, the Gwath are probably the levellest and nicest.
