Bendel - John was born in England and came to Kenya when he was 4. His father was farming at Nanyuki and John soon became interested in horses. He also learnt a lot about riding techniques from Bill Stokes the jockey. John then went to England on a training course in general horsemanship and returning to Kenya, started training racehorses and teaching riding..
In the beginning he specialised in National Hunt racing. His best horse during that period was called Reveille, which won every race he entered. Other good horses John has trained include Kinkajoo, who won the Kenya Gold Cup. Most horses John trains are also owned by him. He prefers to look after a small string. (more)
