Golf - a newcomer to golf, having played for only four years. Earlier in life he had been a first class footballer and this is where he got his temperament for the big occasion. He won by grim determination and concentration. He spent hours daily perfecting his approaching and putting, and with his ability to punch iron shots like the very best amateurs do, he fought his way through. Winner of the Railway Open Mixed Foursomes in 1939 with Mrs Modera and in 1941 and 1943 with Mrs Millar. Runner-up in 1937 with Mrs Modera. Winner of the Ronald Marshall Golf Competition at Njoro in 1946
