Cuckoo - One of my best friends during this period was Philip Deacon, recently arrived in the country and posted to Kisumu as Asst. DC. He was a Cambridge University man. ......... His outward appearance certainly cloaked his genial inner spirits, for he looked more like a serious student than a wag or wit. Yet he quickly became the life and soul of Kisumu. Deacon and I were inseparable, ever ready to play practical jokes and obtain every ounce of fun out of life.
