In 1927 he was appointed chemical officer with the Kenya medical service and on his retirement from Kenya in 1952 he became a scientific assistant at the Rowett Research Institute, Aberdeen. Married Millicent Moir in 1930. In 1956, he was appointed Assistant Director of the Institute and then Director in 1960. He retired in 1996. He died in Grove Nursing Home Kemnay.
