East Africa & Rhodesia - 3/4/1952 - The largest cock trout known to have been landed in Kenya was a rainbow of 11lb 14oz caught by Mr J.A. Dawson in the Melawa river. It is listed as the second largest trout caught in the Colony.

Swara Vol 27:3 July - Sept 2004 - Jock's great uncle was 'Trader Dick' who came to Kenya in 1888. Jock came to Kenya in 1922 at age 2. His mother Dora came to join her husband who was farming on the Kinangop. James Dawson was a fine cattleman but a hard father - sent Jock out aged 8 with a rifle and a single bullet to bag the weekly meat ration.
