Tom Lawrence: Son of Leonard & Marion Danby, and husband of Helen Barbara Danby (BA Cantab). Joined Kenya Regt, and the RASC. He was the first Selwyn man to die on service in the present war. He came up in 1934 from Clifton, and took his B.A. in 1937. In his third year he was a member of the 1st Lawn Tennis VI. When he went down he became an assistant master at Kenton College, Nairobi. Later he left this post for an appointment in the Kenya Education Department. On the outbreak of war he enlisted as a private, but before long he was given a commission in the EA Army Service Corps. After a good deal of active service he contracted cerebral meningitis and died in August last (Selwyn College Calendar 1939-1946, p. 279). m. 1934. RA. 1937. Asst. Master Kenton College.
