General Information:

East Africa & Rhodesia - 18/10/56 - The immediate award of the George Medal has been made in recognition of gallantry in actions against Mau Mau in Kenya. Mr David Hill McCabe (26) was among the first of the volunteers to be selected to command a Special Force team when the formation was constituted in 1955. In his capacity as a special police officer, with a small team of Africans under his command, he has on many occasions been assigned tasks of pursuing fugitive gangs into their forest refuges where, under conditions of great physical and mental strain and regardless of his own personal safety, he has conducted some of the most successful individual engagements of the emergency. "This sustained gallantry and determination are most worthy of official recognition" says the citation.
