Aschan - 1925 - A Dutch friend [of Blixen] Mello Versluys ……….
Aschan - Mello Versluys, the Blixen's closest neighbour [at Bahati], had appropriately named his farm Holland Estate. He and Blix were longstanding friends and had hunted together in the Belgian Congo. It was Versluys who had the fortune to collect the prized tusks of Jaho the invincible, whose tusks together weighed 290 pounds. Mello, who Cockie named 'the little ray of sunshine' due to his hang-dog expression and delight in being the bearer of bad news, had loaned the Blixens his silver Rolls Royce in which to tour Europe on their honeymoon.
