DSO - London Gazette 19/8/16 - For conspicuous gallantry and determination during an attack on a strong enemy position. With 50 men he reached a point and held it for 7 hours till reinforcements came up, when 600 of the enemy surrendered. His tenacity was largely instrumental in the final capture of the position. His DSO was awarded for gallantry on 1/7/16 at Mametz; killed in action (?)
