Old Africa 23/4 - James was one of the first pupils to attend The Grange School at Lumbwa, which moved to Kijabe in 1924 and became Kenton College. ……… completed his education at a Jesuit College in Pretoria, South Africa and became a mining engineer. He subsequently returned to Kenya and mined in Kakamega and Uganda. In 1946 he joined the EAR&H as a Civil Engineering Manager on the construction of the railway tunnels, and eventually moved to Kilindini in 1950 to manage a major expansion project at the port and the harbour. In his spare time ……. Loved to paint. James Lawrence died on 21 February 1960 in Nairobi after a battle with cancer and is buried in the RC cemetery there.
