General Information:
Trans Nzoia Scrap Book - Pioneer of butterfly and moth collecting in the Trans Nzoia. He arrived in Africa as a private in the British Army during the Boer War, and at the end of it decided to remain. He worked his way up through Africa and eventually arrived in Kenya some time during the 1914-18 war and found a job at Limuru. From there he came to Kitale and was employed by Turner, Barker & Hatfield running their mill which, in those days, was in the stream bed opposite the Kitale Club. He stayed with them for many years, moving to their new premises in Kitale and eventually, as a result of a heart attack, moved to the coast where he worked for the Agricultural Dept. for another ten years. He was a great naturalist, interested in everything, although comparatively uneducated. He amassed a large collection, the bulk of which is in the Stoneham Museum.
