Willie Joubert: An interesting point is that Great-grandpa Rooi Piet joined the British forces in Kenya as part of the scouts. It turns out that he was an officer! So, the old Boer War veteran years later joined the British forces. He and Gert Pretorius crossed the border during the World War 1 and actually entered the camp where those who chose to be neutral were kept. They visited with Gen. Wynand Malan one night and the Germans got wind of this. They were furious, but lacked proof.
