Letter from Victor Kane 2 Sep 1994 He was very aware of the fact that his African labour on his farm were very important to him and he treated them justly, firmly but very fairly and those that were loyal to him were rewarded accordingly. On his farm he also operated a butcher's shop. On top of the regular dish out of weekly rations to his labour he also dished out an additional gratuity, being a portion of meat. To the African employee that was quite something. His workers both men and women respected him greatly and consequently his ventures were very successful. The area of his farm was to the S of Eastleigh airport. He made regular safaris into the Kamba Reserve, buying capital and sheep there for butchering and to rotate the blood of his stock. My father often accompanied him on his safaris.
