In 1931 Chater Jack still had the help of Captain (later Major) Moysey, - his farm apprenticeship didn’t finish until the end of October, but hiring
a gentleman and equal was not as satisfactory as hiring a man of lower station and lesser education. He liked to see how everything was done and would then do the task once, but once only, and was more interested in fossils, butterflies, caterpillars and looking for wild flowers. Hiring Moysey had one benefit though. He bought part of the 1820/1 farm in July 1931.ccxliii The Land Transfer Agreement was stamped by the Authorities on Monday, 24th November (‘at a cost in Kenyan shillings of 19,000/-, Moysey was horrified’).
