Obituary, East African Standard 24 Dec 1927 She had a gentle quiet, reassuring manner. After her training she was for two years a sister in the City Hospital Edinburgh, after which she was attached to the staff of the Rutland private nursing home of Edinburgh for another two years. On the outbreak of war she joined the Royal Red Cross and was actively engaged in nursing on a hospital ship plying between London and Malta. She was mentioned in despatches and was awarded the Royal Red Cross. Later she served in the Middlesex War Hospital. After the war she became a district nurse in Marurich Parish, Fife. In 1920 she was appointed by the Foreign Mission Committee of the Church of Scotland to Tumu Tumu Hospital. In this hospital she found scop,e in the training of Kikuyu boys and girls, for her natural gifts of organizing and teaching. She was remarkably gifted in nursing sick children and was a pioneer worker in child welfare among the native children of Kenya. Scores of native mothers readily sought her practical advice. Many African lives were saved by her skill of a nurse. She was of a sunny, happy disposition though somewhat retiring, never more happy than when immersed in work. She died of a heart condition.
