Took over his father's coffee marketing business in Yorkshire. He ran the UK import and sales operation, while Timothy Hutchinson ran the Kenya business.
Ancestors and Descendants of Old Probity  He was called up for military service in 1944 and joined the RAF. He went to Canada to train as a pilot and was demobilized in 1947. He took over management of his father's coffee business in 1947, then at Firby Hall, Malton, Yorkshire and inherited the business in 1952 on the death of his father. In 1955 he moved the business to Sussex where prospects look better for future development. In 1961 he merged his business in Horsham with the Nairobi Coffee and Tea Co Ltd, Dover Street, London W1. 1967 he was appointed to the Board and in 1971 he became Sales Director when he moved the offices and factory from London to Watford. He retired on 6 November 1989. He played cricket for the Yorkshire Gentleman 1947-54, and the Horsham Cricket Club 1955-81. He became Secretary, Captain and finally Chairman of the Horsham Cricket Club, turning it into a combined sports club. He was also a keen golfer and joined the Denham Golf Club when he moved there.
