www.thepeerage.com Maj.-Gen. Sir William Bernard James was born on 8 February 1865. He was the son of William James and Ellen Dent. He married Elizabeth Minto, daughter of William Minto, in 1887.He was educated at United Services College, Westward Ho!, Devon, England He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 2nd Begal Lancers.He fought in the Boer War in 1902. He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1911.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1912. He fought in the First World War. He was Quartermaster-General, India between 1916 and 1917. He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1918.He lived at Otterburn Tower, Elsdon, Northumberland, England. He was Director of Remounts, India between 1922 and 1926. He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1925.
