Terence Gavaghan, Of Lions and Dungbeetles, 1999  He had his own farm lorry in Eldoret. He looked like an American bald eagle with wrinkled face and neck above powerful shoulders, bowed as if to bear a milk bucket yoke. His limbs were muscled like a Leonardo anatomical drawing, showing every sinew of unbelievable strength. He lived close to the earth, surviving on biltong and carrying a half walnut shell as an eyeball to use with his own urine to fend off blinding endemic trachoma and the like. In 1945 he was a Locust Officer.
