Nairobi Forest Road cemetery - William J. Hanlon, British, age 40?, died 24/7/38

EAS 23 July 1938 There was a dispute between Ansell and Hanlon at a house in Muthaiga and shots were fired. Hanlon wounded. Mrs Ansell had returned from a dance at the Railway Institute shortly before the quarrel. Mr and Mrs Ansell came to Kenya about 6 years ago. Mr Hanlon was in the American embassy for 16 years and on retiring last year came to Kenya. He had been working on Ansell's farm at Uplands. Mrs Ansell's mother was the wife of Hanlon. Ansell took Hanlon to hospital by car but he died after an hour. Ansell was admitted to hospital then, with pneumonia. Has a police guard. Ansell was charged with murder but got 5 years with hard labour for manslaughter.
