Before she married she taught in the government school at Nakuru. In Kisumu she had a small school of 25-30 children run by the parents' association. Then she had two years at Machakos Teacher Training College. Then seventeen years running the postal primary school.
Letter from Doe Graham 6 Nov 1994 Bore holes were such a vital commodity. In our 10 years as Athi River on Kenplains all water for house, dairy and stock came from boreholes and then when we were developing Laikipia it was boreholes again and dams. We tried too at the coast but north of Mombasa in the Kilifi area the water was never any use, too brackish, but the lovely deep hole was wonderful for the rubbish and lasted years. We lived at Bukura for the first 12 years of my married life, 30 miles from Kakamega, our nearest boma. Bukura was an agricultural training centre. We used to go to Kakamega every Sunday to play golf.
