East African Standard 28 Dec 1912 An hour before midnight on Sunday night one of the most terrible accidents that has yet occurred off the Uganda Railway took place 200 yards to the west of Kikuyu Station. At that hour 6 wagons, one of them a brake van, was seen to be rushing down the slopes from the Limoru to Kikuyu at a tremendous pace and crashed over the embankment into the Kikuyu Road that runs alongside at the very verge of the station. How this accident happened will ever remain a mystery for the only two occupants, guard Plummer and an Indian sweeper, met their death in the crash. The unfortunate guard was found pinned beneath two 10 ton truck wagons filled to their fullest capacity, one of them with cement, crushed out of recognition.
He was a member of the Legion of Frontiersmen and was given a military funeral.
