Dr.jur. Hans-Wilke Frhr. Von Bodenhausen-Degener
Gazette 8 Feb 1938 probate, says he died at Kilifi
Daily Telegraph 31 Aug 1937 Baron von Bodenhausen, aged 36, a director of the Kurwetu Sisal Estate, who only arrived in Kenya by air from Germany last week, was found shot dead in a bungalow on the estate.
EAS 9 Nov 1937 He had big and varied business interests in Europe and East Africa and was a director of the Kurwitu Seisal Estate which he held 30% of the shares. After arriving by air in Kenya, he was out of sorts, irritable and querulous. He made various complaints of an alleged hostile attitude on the part of his fellow passengers in the flying boat, of inefficiency on the part of Imperial Airways, of the effects of air sickness, that his passport had been wrongfully detained and that he was being followed by the police. The coroner found many of these complaints exaggerated or entirely imaginary. He had been anxiously awaiting a cable during the first two days of his visit to Kenya and it did eventually arrive. It was from his wife and translated read 'Everywhere the sky is clear, love splendid'. The wife gave evidence and said her husband had many business interests and worries but she could think of no reason why he could take his life. The marriage was happy and he had no reason politically to commit suicide. The coroner said his right foot had been used to fire the shotgun which instantaneously ended his life.
