EAS 5 Aug 1937 During the war he served in France, Palestine and Salonika. After the war he was attached to General Denniken's army in Russia, and later he went to Ireland. He came to Kenya as a member of the staff of one of the Thika sisal firms and in 1932 when he married Mrs WA Berldey, of Maragua he went to live at the Njuga Estate, Maragua. He had not been in good health for some time, but when he took over the temporary managership of the Farivale Estate at Nyeri, his friends were delighted to see him looking so well for a change. It came as a great shock to hear of his sudden collapse in the nursing home. He had been the East African Standard's correspondent at Maragua for some years.
