Margaret Gillon, The Wagon and the Star, typescript Bodleian Library Mss Afr.s.568 1929 went to Kenya as a nurse. Is sent to the native hospital at Wesu in the Taita hills. Tells of Verbi sentenced to death for shooting his mother in law. 'I don't considerate it murder as it happened in the Taita hills.' After seven months she was transferred to Nairobi, where she worked in the European hospital. Then she went to Kisumu, and nursed in Mombasa during the war years, in the Native Civil Hospital.
