He went on to work on the railways in southern India, marrying Florence Maud Carter at Bangalore in 1892 and later Agnes Maria Carter, before going to East Africa around 1899 to 1902 as a driver on the Uganda Railway. His son's 1938 marriage certificate shows that he had died by July 1938.
